PA116 Farmland Applications

Land in more than one township requires a separate application for each township.

When filing the original application with the County Clerk’s office the following items must accompany the application:

1. Three photocopies of the application (if the property is within 1 mile of a village boundary, provide an additional copy).
2. One copy of the deed of land contract.
3. A copy of the latest tax notice.

The map on the back of the application must include at least one North/South road and one East/West road.

Applications for property in the following townships should be filed with the Clerk of that township, due to zoning ordinances:

  • Algansee
  • Batavia
  • Bethel
  • Butler
  • Coldwater
  • Gilead
  • Girard
  • Kinderhook
  • Matteson
  • Ovid
  • Quincy
  • Sherwood

When we receive your application for filing, we send out letters and a copy of the application to the applicants, township clerk, the County Planning Commission, and the Soil Conservation District. These organizations will approve the application and send a letter of approval back to us.

When the approval letters come back from all of the above agencies, or 30 days has passed (which ever comes first), we then schedule the application for consideration at the scheduled Board of Commissioners meeting. A letter will be sent to the applicants notifying them of the meeting.

Once the Board has approved the application, a letter will be sent to the applicants and the application will be sent to the State. MDA-ESD Farmland Program.

DEADLINE: Application must be approved by November 1st, to deduct taxes for the current year.
